“Clay, Color and Fire” Workshop Schedule (Note: subject to revision)
Events open to the public look like this

June 27 - 29 International artists arrive, meet Jan and Gerald Checco and host families at airport.
June 30 International artists orientation at Friendship Pavilion (9 am breakfast hosted by CPB with artist/counselor Nancy Johanson, Review Form I) Group transport provided afterwards; DAAP orientation 1 - 5 pm. Welcome dinner by LaRosas’s at DAAP cafe, fourth floor atrium, 6 - 7:30 pm. (artists, project staff, host families, apprentices, assistants and project partner staff members)
Month of July Workshop at DAAP Monday through Friday. International artists: 9 am to 6 pm. Apprentices and assistants: 1 - 5 pm.
July 1 Artists prepare their presentation materials and work on samples in studio. Apprentices arrive at 1 pm, lecture and demonstration by guest artists all afternoon. (This will be the first presentation of art historical lecture and slides and can be treated as a rehersal for the public lecture. Artists will each have 30 minutes for lecture and demonstration for today’s classes.)
July 2 Workshop production begins full tilt!
July 4 Independence Day Picnic in International Friendship Park Pavilion (11 am - 3 pm)
Potluck with Cincinnati Parks staff. Each homestay family brings some food to share (dessert or salad.)
Guests: Artists, Park Board staff members and families, current host families, CCF staff, apprentices and assistants.
Tilemaking for public passers-by 1-3 pm.
July 5 (Sat) Field Trip to Findlay Market for artists and host families (9 am)
Optional Jungle Jim’s safari afterwards.
July 12 Public Slide Lecture “Ceramic Traditions in Our Sister Cities” (2 - 3:30 pm, DAAP 5401)
Open Studio for the public (3:30-4:30)
Potluck picnic with the members of the Clay Alliance (Burnet Woods Band Stand, 4:30 - 7 pm - please bring covered dishes, dessert or salad and join us!
July 18 International artists group session 5 - 6 pm with artist/counselor Nancy Johanson, Midterm Review Form II
July 19 Field Trip: Cincinnati Art Museum tour of ceramics collection with Anne Berger (from 11 am)
Lunch
Contemporary Art Center tour (beginning at approx. 1:30 pm, ending at CAC at 3 pm); International artists receive free admission, other guests pay admission fee
NEW: 3-4:30 pm Midterm Review session with Nancy Johanson at the TMB International Friendship Park. We will work on the clay circle and discuss our progress to this point.
July 25 NEW - PUBLIC INVITED! July 25, Final Friday Fundraiser and "Meet the Artists" Party at Pendleton Arts Center 6 - 10:00 pm Studio 703 (Kay Hurley, host) Helen and Steve Rindsberg are kindly organizing this effort. Please call them at 513 381-0234 or email helen@claycolorfire.org if you can lend a hand. We will be offering special tiles to offer as premiums for anyone making at least a $40 donation to the project. Also, some works from the exhibition case will be offered for sale to benefit the project.
July 26 Field trip to Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Gardens- visiting artists and two members of their host families are invited for a for a tour on Saturday, July 26 at 9:30 am, hosted by Mike Dulaney, Asst. Mammal Conservation Program Manager. After the tour everyone will be free to continue to explore the zoo on their own. If you wish to attend, please contact Claire von Saucken by phone at (513) 604-1192 or email sunshyne@cinci.rr.com on or before July 18.
July 18 International artists group session 5 - 6 pm with artist/counselor Nancy Johanson, Midterm Review Form II
July 31, 7:00 pm Celebration Lunch for artists, host families, apprentices, assistants, project staff, interns and interpretors, partners (SCA, DAAP, CPB) and their staffs and all sponsors. Ault Park Pavilion, buffet style dinner. [Planning still in progress, details to follow]
August 1 Last working day in the DAAP workshop.
NEW International artists and Cinti managers and apprentices group session to the Checco home for Closing Review Session III with Nancy Johanson, followed by dinner.
All host families are invited to join us for desert and beverages at 8:30 pm.
Aug 2 A host family side trip suggestion: Stop by Findlay Market in the morning to see the progress on the Art in the Market projects which the international artists learned about on their July 5 field trip.
Aug 3 - 4 Artists depart Cincinnati for their home countries
